About Susan

Susan’s work as a yoga teacher is a true labour of love.  Blessed to be treading a path that allows her to share with and learn from others and to nurture the well-being of individuals and community, she invites students of all ages to create a safe and loving place for yoga practice, both in themselves and in the physical space they share.

Teaching is a thread that weaves its way through her life:  working with children as an elementary school teacher, offering art classes for all ages, living and learning with her daughter as a home educating parent, serving as Director of Lifespan Learning at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, and bringing creativity, caring, and connection into her work as a yoga teacher.

Completion of Yoga Teacher Training with Core-Elation Yoga and Yin Yoga training with Biff Mithoefer and Kaline Kelly were transformative experiences of mind, body, and spirit, as they lifted up the value and meaning of living yoga both on and off the mat, of illuminating our everyday moments with the teachings and discoveries of yoga.  Susan sees gratitude as a vital ingredient in this process, a deep thankfulness for all the teachers we encounter in our lives – and that is everyone we meet every day.

Susan believes yoga is for all of us – it’s not about whether you can touch your toes or move deeply into complicated postures.  It’s more about a willingness to touch your heart and to deepen your awareness.  A yoga practice can connect us to the power of the present moment, so that we are not living in the stories of what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow.  This practice invites us to live fully right now!  Each of us finds our fit in the practice as our lives unfold.

Currently, Susan teaches a gentle Monday evening flow at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa and Tuesday early evening Yin class at Santosha Elgin.  Private classes are available by appointment.  Give her a call or send an email for more details.

My Quotations

“Yoga is something you must do to understand.  It comes from the inside, slowly, taking you into its own embrace.

No teaching, idea, word, or philosophy will ever be as wholly profound as your own experience of it.”

~Mishabae

Private Sessions

Students receive one on one contact as we explore yoga practice in connection with their individual needs and interests.  Some students are drawn to private classes to address specific health issues or as preparation for participation in group classes; others come out of interest in a particular aspect of practice.
